'Twas a Mistake
(Angelica's Explanation)
'Twas a mistake to make me
And I bet that much is known.
They'd have killed me long ago
If they thought I'd lived live so long.
Immortality's not for the faint of heart.
It took a glance to take me,
With her eyes so deep and brown.
Megan knew me in a heartbeat,
Though I fought her memory down.
Immortality was not the scary part.
I could not simply watch her,
As she danced in the dark
Dabbling in tainted blood
Trading sex to feed the spark:
Oil and canvas, clay and kiln for a fuck.
Then she put the parts together
With an embalmer's care
Hips and hands, lips and legs,
Struggling with her own nightmare.
Immortality through art, not dumb luck.
I also could not save her
Somewhere in the light of day
When she took a bloody needle
That could wash her dreams away,
And the answer to the test tore her apart.
When she ran the blade in slashes
Deeply from elbow to wrist
I imagined life without her
I could not resist.
'Twas a mistake.
Birth by suicide is not an easy start.
'Twas a mistake that made her.
My sense of survival's a rope
Tying me tight to the species - my prey
And then I fell prey to the hope.
Time may test us, but tests don't make us smart.
